Small
children will make sketches of airplanes and tanks and then project their minds
into their paper world of make-believe as pilots and tank commanders. Toy
airplanes become real ones and they find themselves in the cockpit as a famous
war ace, pilot or general. This "Alice-through-the-Looking-Glass"
world is really an elementary form of hypnosis, essential to the building of
ever-budding ego. If, however, this game of imagery is carried over too far
past the zenith of maturity and the threshold of reality, it becomes a
sickness, a debilitation of mind and body, a pernicious sin, indeed, a
conditioning more and more easily manipulated by the unscrupulous.
Watch
the fascination of children for a puppet show; see how the child's mind gets
lost in the play of the puppet actors. There is a projection here too, usually
with one extra stage of identity exchange involved; the children become the
puppets and the puppets become the children. Once the puppets have done their
pleasing thing, the puppeteers can then sell their wares which are acceptable
now, since the child has so identified with the puppet that the puppet is seen
to want what the child is made to want. The puppet's idea has become the
child's idea.
Children
also identify with their wrong friends this way; what their friends do, they
do. What their friends have, they want also and what their friends are, they
become. Whatever it is that tempts and builds egos also takes the identity,
authority, innocence and power of the victim. This principle (hypnosis) is as
valid today as it was in Eden when Adam lost his power and advantage, in
exchange for reaching for the illusion of being in an exalted state like God.
When
a boy matures into a man, a variation of the same principle applies to his
"love" life. If the female he "loves" (she tempts and so
hypnotizes him actually) wants anything, he wants it too and can work his
fingers to the bone for "her”. In a roundabout way, it is really for
himself.
The
female successfully appeals to his pride and builds (excites) his ego and without
realizing what is happening to him, he begins to give her power over him and to
identify with her. In time, a man can so completely lose himself in a female
that if anything happens to her it feels like it is happening to him or he can
become feminine and she masculine.
