I
want to talk to you about hate, something we all feel and can hardly admit to. Have
you ever heard anyone admit that he (or she, of course) hated somebody? Can
you admit that you hate your mom or your husband or your wife or anyone at all?
We
automatically reach for words that are less offensive than "hate”. We say
"I got upset” or "resentful”, "mad” or "annoyed” but no
matter how you phrase it, it is pure hate and you never see hate until it's too
late and even then, you may not see hate at all. It may appear in another form,
such as subservience or obedience. Hate is the usual response to injustice. I
understand that.
Most
of us have felt the sting of cruelty, whether at the hands of a member of the
family, a friend, a government official or a business associate. Such cruelty
comes as a shock and renders us incapable of rising above the moment. So it
naturally leaves us beneath the moment, subject to it. We feel insulted, humiliated
and degraded. Where do the unreasonable, cruel people get their power to
control us this way and to do what they do to us? Let me tell you. You give
them that power.
Of
course, they have inherited a kind of one-upmanship in matters of control. It's
beyond question that we are born into a very cruel world, even though we are living
in the greatest country in the world, The United States of America, we are born
into cruelty and injustice everywhere. It seems that cruel people are not aware
of their own cruelty but you feel it when it is directed against you.
The
torturer doesn't feel your pain; he may even take pleasure in seeing the way
you manifest it. A little boy might enjoy pulling wings off of butterflies.
The person who degrades you always seems to derive real pleasure in seeing you
wince, cringe. He delights in making you miserable and unhappy. Actually, it's
more than pleasure. It's life force, literally life force power that you give
him.
What
I am about to say has to do with the destruction of a nation and of the world.
I'm talking about another holocaust that is about to happen in America if we
are not careful. A clear understanding of what I am telling you can save this
country but if it fails to save the country, it can at least save you from the
country, you and possibly your whole family; although you might have family
members who may not want to join you.
