"The meaning of Christmas
really has two parts”, says Roy Masters. "The first is the history which
all the churches teach and which everyone knows but then there is the mystery.
Unfortunately, very rarely is the mystery of what Christ taught actually
discussed in such a way that people can readily understand it and make sense of
it”. In this unique article, Roy Masters expresses in psychological terms his
view of the mystery of divine forgiveness and man's return to innocence.
You
can find the Truth in one of two ways: through understanding, or via the pain
of experience. However, if you rely on experience alone, you may never learn
the reason for your suffering. This is because you will never discover the
Truth in your intellect for it tries to rationalize and analyze everything; it
looks into its storehouse of acquired facts for answers but facts are merely facts,
meaningless unless illuminated by understanding.
So
what is understanding? Understanding is similar to knowledge in that it flows
from a wellspring of information but the source is not external; it is
internal. Moreover because understanding awakens people instead of simply teaching
them facts it allows people to live according to what they themselves come to
realize.
It
is imperative that you function from what you realize, that you know that you
are known (by a power greater than yourself), that you know that you do not
originate your own knowing and that you realize the origin of your knowing.
For
the truth is, your understanding does not truly originate inside you. By the
same token, neither do evil thoughts originate from within you. They come
through you. You are a receiver, like a television or radio and depending on
the inclination of your soul, you receive good or evil "transmissions”.
